Free Inspiration!

And of course, gold lame.

Just use that picture of Olivia Newton John I used at the end there as your inspiration. Or, you know, the sparklier the better. And leg warmers. Don’t forget the leg warmers!

Chappelle’s Show

If I had been thinking coherently at 4am this morning, I would’ve written this blog post on OurPDX! Ah well.

What do cupcakes, dynamite and dildoes have in common?

Jeff – Uh huh. History is written by the victors.

Melissa – Of course! I had a great time. What a fabulous event! I’ll be sure to attend more. Frankly, I’m afraid not to.

Pie Champ 2.0: It’s So ON!

Will there be buckets for “roman incidents”? I’m assuming that roman incidents require buckets. Because really, what else do romans do but gorge themselves and then puke?

Reminder: OurPDX Author/Reader meetup TONIGHT at Rontoms!

I’m starting to think this Metroknow dude is a figment of the OurPDX Network imagination. I mean really, who is this guy?

Eastside, Saturday night

I’ve been considering stopping by there numerous times on my way up to Powell Butte. I’m totally checking it out next time! It does look soooo tasty :D

Opa! and Greek Ceilings

Really? EXCELLENT! I will totally head down there for some Opa’ing. I might pass on the Ouzo – not a big fan of licorice – but plates, I can break those. Lots.

Maybe we should have our next OurPDX meetup at the Greek Cusina?

Whoa, really? I had no idea. Not that I’m exactly *surprised*, mind you. Ted, the owner, certainly gives off the “I don’t go through official channels” vibe, if you catch my meaning.

Just the same…if you drive by and look up in the window, you can kinda catch a glimpse of my ceiling :D

But really? Do they really wear purple octopus hats? That I gotta see. ;)

Freddy’s = Fresh and Green

Awww. Does this the tunnel entrance is gone? Running through the tunnel entrance and pretending I’m a rock star entering the stage to the screams of throngs of crazy fans was the highlight of my shopping experience!

Looking forward to giving the new digs a once over the next time I stop across the street to purchase my super l33t dog food! Great writeup!

Pioneer Square Weather Machine kaput?

The Weather Machine is one of the first memories I have of Portland. If it’s broken, they better damn well fix it.

If they don’t…well then, I’m leaving!

Yeah, yeah, you’re all quaking in your shoes at the thought.

The Clinton Street Hideaway

Dot’s has THE BEST tuna melt in town. I hope @pdx_monkey was able to sample one before the reincarceration.

Poor, poor little monkeys.

Spotted in PDX

I second Deiselboi: ewe. And I’ll toss in a Yeesh, too. Yeesh!

» Posted By morganpdx On March 5, 2009 @ 1:44 pm

QOD – What have you planted so far?

@dieselboi – Oy. What the heck was I thinking??!?!

My lettuce is already about 2 inches tall.

» Posted By morganpdx On March 5, 2009 @ 2:41 pm

I started about 70 starts a week ago. Mint, basil, cantoloupe, dahlias, lettuce. Problem is, they’re all, you know, sprouting, and I realized I HAVE NO PLACE TO PUT THEM!!! Crap. So I picked up 60 bucks of black plastic pots from 7 dees, and I’ll be planting them outside soon. I guess I got a bit carried away…

I’m walking here!!

Growing up in New York City for part of my childhood seems to have given me a profound disdain for walk signals. For the most part, I prefer to rely on my eyes and ears to decide when and where it’s ok to cross. The bigger/busier the street, the less that’s true, both for the increase in the possibility of my eyes and ears being wrong as the chances of a cop seeing me. But I’m happy to hear that common sense is given its due.

Stumptown Romance?

I dunno, if I had to choose between Pix and Papa Haydn’s/Jo Bar, I’d totally pick the latter. I need some carbs with my sugar, and Pix tends to be solid chocolate for the most part. I guess I’ll have cake, and eat it too.

Downtown Needs a Booster Shot

I remember Peterson’s being a mainstay of my late night social meanderings as a youth. If it weren’t for Peterson’s being open all hours, in fact…well I probably would have smoked a lot less. :/ But I’m all for supporting local businesses.

Oh yeah. People use bikes here too, don’t they?

Yeah, wondering why bikes are included would be my first thought, if it weren’t for the fact that so many people in portland rely heavily on biking as a means of commuting, and really as their *only* mode of transportation. My roommate for instance, hasn’t owned a car in years, and does everything by bike.

I love that portland is so bicycle-centric. And the mayor has positioned himself as very bike-friendly, so the irony of the fact is that much more…well, ironic.

Wait. Did I use ironic correctly? (little Ignite joke there)

Nostalgia is the punchline

Don’t forget Antwerp! That’s where all the *best* diamonds come from.

Seriously though, I’ve been to Farrell’s and miss it. I think that pretty much clinches my status as a native PDXer at this point, no?

As for Mr. Tom Shane, I did find your radio spots mildly annoying; and yet, the entire PDX Metro area knows your radio spots by heart. I’d call that effective marketing. Good luck to you – I hear Tom Peterson can give you some tips about working the speaker circuit.

The start of a journey. OBAMA!

Awesome! Have a safe trip, and relish every moment of this once in a lifetime event. And HUGE thanks for giving the PDX community a way to experience it first hand!

Forest Park and The Skyline Tavern

I love that place. It’s so backwoods. Last time I was there was on a bike ride I did around those parts. The regulars gave us quite the eyeball, but they were pretty darn friendly once you get to know ‘em. And great view from the back deck, right? Perfect place to hang after a day hiking my most favorite park in the whole world.

See? We told you it was bad.

Ok ok yes it’s bad. I barely managed to crawl out of my driveway today, and was too scared to attempt it with my chainless, studless, skipeless tires. BUT! Hailing originally from the east coast as I do, I will tell you that it’s not the snow, it’s how you deal with it. You just don’t get snow like this every winter, like the folks back east do, so your basic snow-management infrastructure is minimal at best. I lived on a dead end street off of a dead end street back east. It was plowed by 4am if there was snow on the ground, without fail. We were responsible for the driveway; the city took care of the rest. (but boy howdy, it was a looooong driveway!)
