Act fast! Portland’s political landscape at stake!
Oy! I pointed a friend to this and he sent you an email CCing me. I wasn’t sure what he needed to do so if you could point him in the right direction that would be lovely!

That would be quite smart actually.

The Room… but not with a view…
I’m REALLY amazed that I hadn’t heard much about it when I lived in LA (I only moved here a year ago!). I wonder how many people will show at the next one as I do think all us new to it are telling friends. This will be interesting.

I’m a recent-ish transplant too. I mainly get around using public transport, however when we moved here, we chose a place close to a MAX line so that I could use my car less (mainly because we’re restoring it)/ get around fairly easily. We got a zipcar account and we use that for longer jaunts and certain shopping expeditions (really, when it comes to furniture, not much fits in a bug). However, there are times when it’s nice to know that we can use our car and not have to reserve a zipcar or not be able to due to funds.
I say try living without your car first. You know, pretend it doesn’t exist for a month. This way, you’ll have a better idea of what you’re in for before you no longer have a car.

This… is why I love Betsy.
as for dear Edborasky:

I’m going to have to stop in while we still have offices down the street. Sounds tasty! Hmmm… a shake right now would be good.

I’m with dieselboi; I second the pix notion. I’ve had great service and the staff was really nice at both the SE Division and the N Williams location.

There’s no place like home… where ever that is…
So two years seems to be about the average. Hmmm… That’s not a bad length for twitterpated!
I do love it here and I can’t think of anywhere else I’d like to move to in this country! Part of me likes the newness of it all in that it makes it all the more exciting. It’s like I have a new lease on life, and maybe I do. From where I am, however, 8 months in, it just made me wonder if I’d ever feel like this was my city. It is a great city and I really love it so far.

There are little places I’ve been into or passed by recently that make me wonder how they’re doing in this economy. I’ve also seen a few signs go up on places I had gone into a couple of times. It makes me sad that I couldn’t help keep them in business. I hope Kitchen Kaboodle will be able to make it through with cutting back hours.
Hard times, man, hard times!

Ignite Portland Tickets – Thursday 10AM
The boyo and I got tickets! I didn’t think they’d go so fast! Last time we waited in the GA line the day of. We got in no problem!

PJ party would have been awesome! We once had a pajama jammy jam which gave me the excuse to wear my foot-y pajamas (with kittens on it…WHERE my aunt found those, I will never know!).
It’s good to be comfy!

TriMet MAX Yellow line down for 3+ days
@JustinS – I too was in that line waiting for the bus and watching …what? 3 buses pass FULL of people. The last one was the best as that bus driver yelled at us and told us that that wasn’t where the shuttle pick up was and that we all needed to go up to the Transit Center. It seemed to add insult to injury. So the last of the line that was waiting near the platform gave up the ghost and trekked up to the TC. I thought for sure a mob would form, however, upon seeing a mostly empty shuttle bus there, everyone just piled on thankful to be able to get home.
I’d like to say a word of thanks to the driver of that bus as he made sure that EVERY last person (that I saw, at least) got on that shuttle. Also, those that had started walking up Interstate in disgust over the situation were also picked up, no matter that they were in the middle of the street. So a bus load of kvetching people that had waited too long in the cold turned into a friendly and thankful bus full of people, made even more so by the generosity of the bus driver that insisted that no man was left behind.

Breaking News from N. PDX:
Ok so I was out taking pictures just now, like ya do, and a train passed through the intersection going towards downtown. Do you think it’s back up and running or are they doing test runs?
The TriMet website says the Yellow is still down.» Posted By capricious On December 24, 2008 @ 11:06 am

Buy Lots of Books, Get a Burrito From One Loving Son
I will be buying MYSELF books there… there’s always something I want and I adore this idea, and I don’t even care if I forget about the burrito!

Yes, Santa Claus, there is a Virginia Cafe!
I’ve heard a lot of people say they don’t like the new VC ’cause it’s not the old VC which makes me think…. “quoi???”
Seriously! I still like going there ’cause sometimes in my drinking haze I look for the stairs to run to the Loo. They have great specials and the food is good in that bad way, if you know what I mean. (I’ve a soft spot for their fries)
The old one did hold lots of memories for me, however, as we ALWAYS stopped by on our visits before moving here. Still, that’s no reason not to enjoy the new one!

This sounds oddly familiar! LA has this problem with rain; people can’t drive in it, everyone complains as though they were undergoing GREAT trauma and distress due to said rain… craziness! The news shows send out “storm watch” crews in LA whenever it rains… *shakes head* You’d think the sky was falling!

Do You Have a Favorite Liquor Store in PDX?
See, here is where I still feel the “I miss LA” thing. I’ve not found a good liquor store that isn’t the “bark your order”/soup nazi kind. The selection is limited, even more so than some of the grocery stores in LA! I’m going to have to try some of these places suggested to see what I can find. The Vodka selection, in my opinion, is lacking. Does ANYONE know where I can acquire some Jewel of Russia Ultra and some Armadale? Thankfully I’ve found the Medoyeff at the place on 6th and SW Washington!

Damn skippy you’re a hipster, Betsy! Just look at you with your shaggy long hair, your skinny jeans… your converse… wait… what?!
Hipster?! See, here again is a mixed up view on what a hipster is… I had this discussion at one of the meet-ups at Plan B with Divebarwife and I was saying that there are 2 different definitions running around.
ANYWAY… last night was a blast!! We had a great time and the boyo is FIRED UP about what he’d going to do for the next Ignite. I’m amazed he didn’t submit it last night! You were excellent, by the way. You’re right, though, who can compare with CamiKaos’ cleavage…except maybe Melissa Lion’s made-these-myself fabu charts?!

Two Months Until Smoking Ban Takes Effect
You know… I know what you mean. When they banned smoking in LA ages ago, we were very upset and everyone thought things would be terrible. People adapt and it was nice coming home and not smelling like you personally smoked 5 packs of cigs. Also, it’s LA so… it’s not like going outside was a big problem as it’s always pretty nice out. Still, there’s something to be said about sitting at a bar with a cigarette in one hand and a martini (my choice) in the other. AH! I’ve always said a little vice is nice…
In Ireland, when the ban happened there was quite the hullabaloo, however, 2 or so years later, things are fine and people have accepted it. When the boyo and I were there in March, people were telling us that if anything, the Irish have become more social . Gone were the days of sitting and having a pint and a cig by one’s self. Now, they said, people were talking to each other more, when they had to go out to commiserate with other smokers. Also, it just made pub going evolve… 4 months after the ban the BBC ran this article

See I could never do fennel… I always tended to relate it to anise or licorice. The taste always spoiled it for me… If I got a hint of it in the sauce or sausage (generally I find it’s over used in sauces), that just threw the whole dish for me.
Dill weeds at the sausage party?!?!
heheheheIs that like douche bags at a sausage fest???
