Say The Call Letters Backward

Honestly, terrestrial radio is dying anyways. I think this is a great opportunity for them all to get honest-to-god talk radio podcasts going on. It’s truly the next evolutionary step anyways.

I went ahead and let Eric Tomorrow, host of The Mediocore Show, know about it. He talk a LOT about Emerson in very up-beat tones. So maybe he can help get some transition going.

Dear PDX Advice Guy

@bewcaster: “Please work on your word choice, you are making us Oklahoman’s look bad.” Should I point out the grammatical flaw there? *chuckle* BTW, fellow Oklahoma, what part of OK do you hail from?

@Cosmic Charlie: Oh man, that would have been AWESOME. I thought Chablis just put out the chances one would get laid on a date… #noheadforwine

Fill ‘er Up?

That’s actually kinda cool. I like how Portland is always trying to be at the forefront of these initiatives.

Reasons to Celebrate: a Mystery Solved and a Farmer’s Market in St. Johns

Oddly, I had always heard bad things about the St Johns area when I first moved to Oregon. Glad to see those things are wrong. The wife and I are considering a possible move out of Clackamas (hard, since my job is about 10 minutes away), maybe we’ll have to consider St Johns because we REALLY want a house.

Is the Bubble Machine coming to Portland?

Hey, we get a footie team. I’m happy about that. Yes, there might be some suck involved from a financial perspective, but I think Portland needs to realize that not everything that isn’t eco/green/local-community-oriented is some horrific plague foisted upon the city.

MLS in PDX? FUCK YEA!

A Cleaner, Safer Wackenhut?

Still being new-ish to PDX, I’m not 100% sure of how eliminating the Fareless Square for buses helps make downtown safer? I don’t mean that in a snarky way, but more that I would think that most of the “bad” elements of downtown are already there and, thus, don’t care how they move about?

Happy Birthday To Us!

I’ve totally enjoyed being an author here and I really can’t wait to see what the next year brings. Thankfully I’ll be at both events on Friday (parking be damned!). I’m super-duper looking forward to SLL!

The Mad Dash

That’s another surprising thing I encountered when I moved here from Oklahoma. Back home, most everything grocery store-ish is 24 hours. Plus we have QuikTrip which is almost like a supermarket, but they keep decent food out 24 hours a day. Of course, we have Wal-Mart and pretty much every one is either a 24-hour Super Center, or 24 hour in general.

I would figure that a “small” state like Oklahoma would be like here in Oregon. It’s rather shocking to see just how much stuff does keep some vague form of “business hours.” The fact that Fred Meyer’s isn’t 24 hours is baffling.

OurPDX Author/Reader Meetup – May 19th

Ok. I’m going to actually try like all hell to be there on the 19th. I’ll just get @KoekjeMom to drop me off and mebbe go pick up some VooDoo doughnuts for the kiddos.

If I can’t make it for some reason, I’ll FOR SURE be at Wizard Boots’ show.

Come on out y’all, you really can’t go wrong with an OurPDX meetup!

Burgerville + Beer + Twitter = Excellent

I think this is a really great thing. The fact that a local company is so interested in extending their ties into the community by uniting themselves with another local company is absolutely outstanding. Plus I like that they are now trying to distance themselves from being just another fast-food franchise. So kudos to Burgerville for being awesome.

In fact, I think we’ll be doing bville for lunch today…

PAgent’s Favorite PDX Food Carts

I really need to get downtown and try some more foodcarts out. So far my experience has been limited to whomever shows up at Saturday Market. Granted, they’re pretty good too.. but still.

Word to Your Mother

I’m posting late, but I totally hope that this event rocked as hard as it looks like it would. Next year, I’m totally planning ahead and getting me and @KoekjeMom into this.

Meeting People Can Be Easier

This post is jam-packed with awesomeness! :) Unfortunately the Meetin site is blocked from where I work, but I fully plan on checking it out later on. Awesome post!

Dear PDX Advice Guy

@case and @SW

Couldn’t agree more. While I’ve never been much of a volunteer (only having helped at a couple events here and there), I do agree that it’s a great way to get out and meet folks. Portland is absolutely packed with great volunteer opportunities. Great suggestions!

Dear PDX Advice Guy

I know that, at one point, there were rumors that some place here already did that, but I really don’t know. I have to admit though, given Portland’s left-leaning stance, I’d be curious to see just how a business like that would fare.

Of course, at the moment, it’d obviously be UNadviseable to try such a business. :)

SLL: Introducing Weekly Access

@camikaos: I promises, I will! So when do I get to be part of the studio audience? And when is SLL gonna have a Deviant Advice call-in hour huh? Hmm? *nudge*

Oh bonus. I’ll be sure to start tuning in… right after I start reliably tuning in to SLL.

I’m a bad bad local geek.

Blazer Rally downtown in Pioneer Place next Thursday 4/16

So.. since I’m still a bit new to Portland’s basketball scene, can you explain “RIP City” to me? I’ve absolutely no clue.

Dear PDX Advice Guy

“5. 8.25% sales tax.”

This this THIS!!!!

Srsly. Moving from OK to OR was such an amazing experience for my wallet. Whenever me and my wife went back home last year, I had gotten So used to not paying sales tax, that I freaked out when I was charged tax on a food purchase. And then when we had to go pump some gus and, shock!, I had to pump it myself? Insanity!

Dear PDX Advice Guy…

@brewcaster: “It has always bothered me that when this topic comes up, the meat eaters rush to defend themselves as if someone was attacking their free will to eat meat.” It’s pretty much us getting our carnivore on. *rawr*

/got nothin
//does like Vegan doughnuts from VooDoo tho. *nummy*

Man, I feel like a.. woman?

Well. It’s like this.

I’m not really sure what all advice I could really have given here. I mean, the only other option I felt I had was to try out the whole “ok, either be gay, or straight and don’t deviate from that,” but that just seemed silly to me.

Now, in that this is “my” advice column, I prefer to keep it open and highly encourage folks to post up their own ideas for what would make good advice. Actually, I sort-of demand it really, but I try to keep it low-key. So if you have something else to add, get on it. After all, the site is called “Our” PDX. It’s not just about us writers, it’s about us as Portlanders. :) I totally look forward to what you can put out there.

Seriously.

Do it. NOW! er.. uhm.. please. Yes. Pretty please?

Four wheels good, two wheels… not so much?

@McAuliflower: if you’re referring to motorcycles, trust me in that I’m always looking. I’m hyper-obsessive about road sharing and whatnot. If you’re talking about bicycles, then it’s the same thing, but I’m WAY more paranoid. I’m always afraid they’re gonna hit a pebble and fall off their bike and then I’m going to run over them. It terrifies me. Of course, most bike commuters in PDX would probably never experience this type of an accident, but I’m always terrified of it.

Now, if you’re talking about those green boxes.. somehow they just escape me. Well, unless someone’s in one and then, of course, I notice that from quite the distance out.
